根據Goodglass(1993)，命名型失語症有四大類型：

【Frontal anomia】

可能為輕度 transcortical motor aphasia 的形式

-主要特徵：

自發性命名困難（word retrieval impaired）

提示首音（first sound cue）可改善命名表現

-語言表現：

語意理解相對保留

以提取困難為主，而非語意崩解

【Anomia of the angular gyrus region】

可能為輕度 transcortical sensory aphasia的形式

-主要特徵：

流暢性語言，但大量命名錯誤

-典型表現：alienation of word meaning

重複某詞但無法理解其意義，即使提示也無法辨識該詞

-語言特徵：

語音流暢

語意連結明顯受損

-主要特徵：

嚴重命名困難

-語言表現：

流暢、語法正常

閱讀近正常

書寫近正常

推測聽理解近正常
