Before hot work is commenced, the tank should be isolated, cleaned (drained) and gas freed.
Ventilation is maintained in areas where hot work shall be performed.
Areas where burning or glowing material or sparks may fall down shall be thoroughly cleaned and covered with water.
The atmosphere in tanks where hot work shall be performed and in adjoining tanks and rooms shall be checked less than 1 hour before hot work is commenced.
During the work, gas measurement shall be taken at least every second hour, and always less than 1 hour before work commences on a new day or after work has stopped for a duration of time.
A fire watch shall always be posted in the area where hot work in carried out. The fire watch shall have at his disposal at least two powder apparatuses ready for immediate use.
